Translated from Altay language "El Oyin" means "Folk games". The tradition to organize that wonderful holiday has developed quite recently: for the first time it was held in 1988 in Ongudaisk area.

The picturesque valley situated near Altay village of Elo is chosen as the venue place for the festival.

Surrounded on all sides by mountains, it has evolved into an open-air stage. Performances are held simultaneously in different areas. During the holiday the following activities are held: theatrical performance, performances by epic storytellers and masters of throat singing, contest- parade of national costumes, competition of children and youth arts, exhibition and fair "The City of Masters", the competition of ails (yurts), contest of playing national musical instruments, humorous competition "Tastarakay", folk song competition, the exhibition "Hunting trophies", a concert of artists of Altay Republic and guests of the holiday.

Alongside with the cultural events, sports competitions and folk games with representatives of neighbouring regions (Khakassia, Tuva, Altay Area) are hosted, too. The total number of people present at the festival is always more than 20 000.

"El Oyin " is an unforgettable experience and serves for national cultural revival, strengthening friendship and brotherhood of Slavic and Turk people, the event draws attention to the pressing problems, tightens the traditions of good neighbour living and respect for people of all nationalities.
